hilarious

So our brother Bryant (guitarist of STW) posted this video on my facebook yesterday…it’s so interesting because even if you don’t like the song or what it’s about – this actually reflects life in Hong Kong for international school kids. Watching this video I was definitely cringing – but more because I remember those days incredibly well. Why do I remember it? Because I’ve been straight edge my whole life – I remember all my dumbass friends being stupid during those days and me laughing my ASS off :-) Actually, we had a lot of fun during those days and I could probably say that a few of those years were some of the best in my LIFE…

Anyway…pretty funny video – but a lot of truth in it. Bryant also said “as a parent, this makes me angry”. Couldn’t agree more…but it’s still an honest reflection of what life is like for international school kids. My Sofia might be experiencing this one day! OH MY GOD!!!!!!! :-(

I’m out…shhhhhhh – don’t tell anyone – we’re launching the OVERCOME music video today :-)

Peace,

Riz

shai hulud

Man – there’s one band that I feel like we have a lot in common with. This band is called Shai Hulud…with their first full length “hearts once nourished…” I was totally in love with this band. The record after that was also amazing…then anything else that has come out has not been that interesting. But that was also because around that time I was falling out of love with the more “metal” hardcore…the past couple years I’ve just been back in love with hardcore hardcore…shit that’s fast, power chords, and the power is in the lyrical content…

Anyway – Shai Hulud has always had a bad history of keeping singers…they have never released an album with the same singer twice. So now they just announced that their first singer Chad Gilber (who is the guitarist of New Found Glory) is coming back to sing on their new album. That’s fucking exciting! But he won’t be touring with them so I don’t know what that will do for them when they play live.

Same thing with us – we just released the best album (Time Will Prove) of our 13 year history…then drummer quits 2 weeks later…and then all year we’ve been advertising for a drummer and have had a few calls. But nothing has materialized…we know what we want and what we’re looking for – and we found THAT dude yet.

It’s a pain in the ass…we have this record that we can’t promote. But are still doing what we can.

Overcome video will be out in a few days!!!!

Riz

Wishing Tree

For the past couple days I’ve been creating a Wishing Tree together with the children of my classroom(The children helped me make it, then wrote their hopes/wishes for the year on the thin pieces of paper). This activity’s purpose was to bring the kids together as a community and teach them to rely on each other and look out for each other. The rest of the school year they will work in a classroom

together every single day, so it’s important to establish a learning community.

I’d like to know why the government can’t spend more time, money and resources so that HK’s public schools can ALL have this type of learning environment? Why do children have to attend expensive HK private schools to have this type of learning?

You are really going to spend time and energy pushing something like National Education, instead of fixing the most important problem with HK’s education? Where is the LOVE for learning which should be at the HEART of all schools?

Ridiculous.

H2O live at This is Hardcore Fest…SOOOOOOO GOOD! Watching this makes me EVEN MORE excited for the CNHC Hardcore Festival!!! Are we going to see stagedives like this???
