JULY 28, 2007

yesterday i went out to the new discovery bay plaza that they made…it’s pretty damn cool man!!! of course, i think the whole atmosphere of discovery bay is unlike any other part of HK…it seems very european in terms of the architecture, overall feel of the plaza and the entire clientele of discovery bay. i haven’t been to discovery bay in over 15 years (longer then some of you have been alive! hahahaha…) so it was a nice little way to find out what this little place has become…

dude – nic lovesong (yes that’s his official new name – he even changed it in his ID card…just kidding! hahaha…) just told me that this band from the UK called yndi halda just played in HK!!! dude – this is GREAT emo/post-rock stuff…emo like i know it – quiet, calm…i wish i knew this band was playing in HK!!! i would’ve gone!!!http://www.myspace.com/yndihalda  grrrr…missed them…

last night i spent the night watching Jun, Eugene Pao, and crew play a bunch of old school 70’s rock classics at Ci Xi in central! oh man…it was so good…i haven’t seen jun play drums in such a long time and it was great to see him rocking out to some classics. eugene pao was amazing…so amazing…i finally got to meet eugene pao and it was so nice meeting him. such a humble guy – a legendary guitar player knwon the world over but is still a fan of the guitar at heart. last night he was telling me that he’s been watching Paul Gilbert “how-to-play-guitar” videos on youtube!!! EUGENE PAO!!! he’s watching how to play guitar videos?!!?!? holy crap! :-) man – so the saying goes, no matter how old you are, how long you’ve been playing an instrument, you are still ALWAYS learning! always!!! the coolest part was that he says King Ly Chee is great! what the hell?!?!? i didn’t even know he knew my band…that was crazy! he said that one time he was scared to play after us! WHAT?!?!??! he said it was at the macau show that we played last year…oh my god – i felt so embarrassed when he said this. but that’s just how humble of a musician he is. he just loves music simple…it was a total honor meeting him…

great night of music man…such a great night…jun didn’t sing any of his own songs  arggggg…i’ve been dying to hear those songs LIVE again…it’s been a LONG time since i’ve seen him play those old classic Jun songs…… ..

oh my god…two days ago i cleaned up my horrible room and i found all of KLC’s oldest photos…these are photos from KLC’s first 2 years as a band…it even includes our very first and second shows as well!!! KLC’s very first show was at he wanch…our very second show was at the warehouse back in 1999!!! the day after we played at Citydancer in Causeway Bay…all three of these shows was in one week! The Wanch was on a Wednesday, Warehouse was on Saturday, Citydancer was on Sunday…we only played 4 songs (Hopeless, Scarred, Do-do-do, Been Missing This) at each of these shows and we only jammed for the first time 1 month prior to these shows…then i also have photos from our very first show in mainland china – which was in Guangzhou also in 1999…that was an amazing show at this old place called Unplugged that was totally punk rock and DIY…this was also when my old friend Fai (singer of the fatjob) came up to guangzhou with us to hang out. man – he was such a good friend of mine…i’m wondering what this guy is doing now. i searched through more photos and i found photos from our first show in shenzhen, our first show at poly U in 2000 when we played there o-night, our first show at Ko Shan in december of 1999…photos from our first two shows in Taiwan in 2000 when they put us on the main stage at Formoz Festival and this was alex’s first show with us!…photos of the shows that we played with Himsa, photos from when we opened up for Envy…and photos of the 2 other bands that created King Ly Chee’s name: Lam Kei and Fat Job…those were some of the most exciting times of KLC because we had no name then, we were just another local band, but we all knew we were a part of something great – together with Lam Kei and Fat Job we were all a part of something exciting and new for HK……such a great and memorable time…of course, looking at the photos all you will remember are the good times! hahahaha…but still, looking through all these photos makes me proud about all the things that king ly chee has done these past 8 years. how we started, what we faced, what we did for HK and all of today’s underground bands, the doors we opened for so many heavy bands…so many things…even if a small group of people don’t respect me now or respect KLC – i will always remember that at least in my life, i worked my fucking ASS off for hong kong. i worked my ass off for this band and spent everyday of the past 8 years working, dreaming, thinking about this band and the HK “scene”. i am proud of all the things that i’ve done. i am proud of all the people i’ve met along the way…i have learned so much about myself – i’ve changed so much of myself because of this band – from an incredibly stubborn person who was set in his ways, to understanding that a huge number of things need to be changed about my character and personality. and this only happened because my real friends didn’t give up on me. i met some of my closest friends that i have now through this band… this only happened because KLC’s real supporters didn’t give up on KLC and me even if they didn’t like the songs that we wrote during the Under One Flag days, they still believed in me and this band.

looking through these photos makes me proud that i didn’t give up on KLC last year even thought quite a few people tried hard to have it end. i’m still here…still fighting and will probably die fighting. like my good pal kevin said “i am glad that u still stuck with KLC because if it was me i think i would’ve given up…that’s STAND STRONG bro”…

thank you to all of you for staying with us. for learning our songs…for learning our words…for not paying attention to the negative stuff that is out there about me or us. this band is much stronger today because of all of you…
