KIA Bandroom – Hong Kong

w/ FatJob, Departing Cross, DAS, Kick Oaf, King Ly Chee and DLU

This was the greatest show of the entire year of 2000 and was a great way to end one of the most productive and positive years for underground aggressive music in Hong Kong.

So much has happened in this past year for each of the bands that played this show. We had bands like FatJob  who have worked hard and practiced so much that their hard-work can now be FELT at their live shows with their powerful live performances. Departing Cross  is by far one of the GREATEST death metal bands in Hong Kong with incredibly well structured original songs that range from melodic death metal to speed metal to some doom and some black metal stuff. DAS  is a brand new death metal band who played one original song tonight and will hopefully start playing more original music in the future. DLU is a strong and young new rap/metal band in Hong Kong who are extremely TIGHT for the amount of live experience they have. Tonight’s show was the first show for a brand new band called Kick Oaf  (pronounce “off”) who were welcomed by all the bands who played tonight. It was great to see how much support a brand NEW band was getting! The band members of all the other bands were standing in the front row cheering and supporting Kick Oaf as they played through their first 2 original songs. Their music is made up of lots of different parts including some Earth Crisis style breakdowns and some punk rock beats as well. They were great and I can’t wait to see them at their next show!!!

The best part of tonight’s show was that we were all friends. We are all a part of the same community that we have all been dreaming about! It doesn’t matter that some bands played rap/metal – some played hardcore/metal – some played emotional/hardcore – some played death metal…the most important part was that we all THINK the same way and all care about creating the SAME thing which is building a community. This has been our dream since day one and now it’s happening!!! We are closer and closer to creating our OWN underground community and this community is based on FRIENDSHIP – COMMUNICATION – UNDERSTANDING – SUPPORT – and GENUINE heart and soul…

This was the greatest way to end of the most positive years in the history of underground aggressive music in Hong Kong…hopefully next year will be even better!!!

A special thanks to the staff of KIA Studio for organizing such a great show!!! (for more information on any of these bands feel free to contact us and we will give you their information. for more information on KIA Studio check out come.to/kiahk )

DECEMBER 28, 2000

Did anyone check out last weeks issue of HK Magazine? I forgot to post it on our site but in that issue we were awarded the BEST LOCAL ROCK band. Pretty cool…the cover of our CD was placed right next to Madonna’s and above Tu Pac’s. hahaha…pretty funny. I think that issue may still be available at Pacific Coffee Company in Admiralty, Causeway Bay and the other branches. Nothing else to report – HMV will be selling my magazines but only at the Causeway Bay and Tsim Sha Tsui branches…the magazines should be in shops by this Saturday or Sunday.

The Jazz Club – Hong Kong

w/ m2r

We were back at the home of jazz and blues in Hong Kong last night. This time we weren’t with our good friends FatJob but with our OTHER good friends m2r. They’re a 3-piece all girl punk band in Hong Kong whose music is really similar to Bikini Kill and the whole Kill Rock Stars label style music. They’re amazing and I think a lot of people in the audience weren’t expecting to hear them play the stuff they did. They were incredible.

There were a lot of people at last nights show so that was really nice – especially since it was Christmas day. It seemed like everyone just came together to have a good time…

So that’s that…I’m really excited about the show on the 30th!!! For more information on this show check out come.to/kiahk

DON’T MISS THAT SHOW!!! #6 of my magazine will be out then too!!!
